Son of Russell and Alexina Acorn of Murray River, Prince Edward Island.
Enlisted in Aldershot, Nova Scotia, with the West Nova Scotia Regiment, from 13 July 1940 to 27 November 1940, deployed to the 1st Battalion, Royal Rifles of Canada, he served in New Brunswick, in Newfoundland with Force W, in Québec, in Hong Kong with Force C. He had 527 days of service, including 55 overseas.
Cousin of Rifleman John Murdock Acorn, who died the same day while serving in the same unit.

Memorial
Rifleman JOSEPH AMON ACORN is one of 22 members of the Royal Rifles of Canada, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps who are commemorated on this panel of the Sai Wan Memorial. He was one of 290 Canadian soldiers killed during the defense of Hong Kong, from December 8th to December 25th, 1941. The name immediately below on the memorial is that of JOHN MURDOCK ACORN who died on the same day as JOSEPH AMON ACORN, December 23, 1941. Joseph was from Peters Road, Prince Edward Island and John was from Sydney, Nova Scotia. -

Dedicatory inscription of the SAI WAN MEMORIAL. This memorial bears the names of more than 2,000 Commonwealth servicemen, including 228 Canadians. -
