Son of George Wellington and Rita (nee Strahmayer) McGill of Toronto, Ontario. Spouse of Elizabeth Louise (nee Goodman) McGill and father of Peter Edward of Toronto, Ontario. Flight Lieutenant McGill was a student of the University of Toronto 1936-1938. Flight Lieutenant McGill was taken Prisoner of War in January 1942 after bailing out from his Wellington aircraft. He was one of six Canadian airmen shot after being recaptured during an escape from Stalag Luft 3.

Poznan (or Posen), which is the capital of the Province of the same name, is a cathedral city on the River Wanta. The POZNAN OLD GARRISON CEMETERY is on the northern side of the town.
