Location:

Montoir-de-Bretagne is a village and commune 3.75 miles (6 kilometres) north-east of St. Nazaire. It is on the main St. Nazaire-Chateaubriant road and is easily reached from St. Nazaire. The cemetery is in the village, north of the main road to Savenay. The one war grave is south-east of the main entrance.

  • James Murphy and  Mary Josephine Murphy– James Joseph Murphy (1891-1964) and Mary Josephine Murphy (1891-1960) were from Newfoundland.
They were maried in Glace Bay in 1910 where they raised 12 children (6 boys and 6 girls).
  • Letter– 619.Sqn RAF Lancaster III PG-E LM643 crashed due to Flak probably North of Montoir-de-Bretagne during a bombing raid against Donges oil plant. All crew sadly KIA and burried at three different locations.

  • Cemetery– I am the first family member to find my way to Dave's resting place and I was very pleased to find him in such a lovely place. All the local graves are laying North-South and Dave is laying East-West looking back towards Canada.... September 20, 2008
