On 23 November 1940, Justicia was sailing with convoy SC-11 when, at 00:18, she was hit amidships by a torpedo launched from U-100 about 160 miles (258 km) west of Bloody Foreland, Donegal, Northern Ireland. The captain, 12 crew members and one gunner lost their lives. The 25 other sailors and one gunner were rescued by the British destroyer HMS Enchantress (L56) and landed in Liverpool, England.
