Location:

Bergen is on the coast 6 kilometres north-west of Alkmaar and 43 kilometres north-north-west of Amsterdam, lying 3 kilometres west of the main Alkmaar-Den Helder road. The BERGEN GENERAL CEMETERY is on the north-eastern outskirts of Bergen, in the road known as Kerkedijk. The British plots are in the south-eastern part of the cemetery.

He died on December 4, 1943 and is buried in BERGEN GENERAL CEMETERY Netherlands

The crew of Halifax EB 137 was airborne 2339 3 Dec 43 from Tholthorpe on a night operation over Leipzig.  Cause of loss and crash-site not established.  431 Sqdn lost four of their aircraft on this operation.  The following crew are buried in Bergen General Cemetery:  F/S F.A.Long, age 20, RAF; Sgt G.Heider, age 23, RCAF; F/S R.R.Steven, age 22, RAF; Sgt G.F.Brown, RAF; Sgt W.C.Burley, RAF; P/O G.H.Armstrong, age 19, RCAF; Sgt J.G.L'Argent, age 29, RAF.
