Grave Marker – Photo courtesy of Frans van Cappellen, Putten, The Netherlands Whitley aircraft Z-6577 was one of three 78 Sqdn Whitleys lost on an operation to Cologne. See: Z6754; Z6823. The aircraft was airborne 2252 16 Aug 41 from Middleton St.George. Cause of loss not established. Crashed 0247 at Oh_ en Laak (Limburg), on the W bank of the Juliana Kanaal, 14 km SW of Roermond, Holland. all are buried in Jonkerbos War Cemetery. Nineteen-year-old Sgt. Olsen is listed as Pilot as is 22-yr-old Sgt T.A.Sherman of the RCAF. Three members of the RAF were also killed. They were: F/S R.Jopling age 32; Sgt D.A.Wilson age 22; and Sgt D.F.Hawkes age 25.
