F/Sgt Adair was Observer on Wellington X-3713 which was airborne at 2346 20 June 42 from Honington on a raid to Emden.  It was shot down by a night-fighter and crashed 0145 at Leenstertillen-Leens, 20 km NW of Groningen, Holland. All are buried in Leens General Cemetery.  The pilot W/C L. V. James DFC, who had recently been appointed as No.9 Sqdn Commander, was a very experienced bomber pilot with twenty-seven sorties to his credit, though this was his first with 9 Sqdn.  With F/Sgt. Adair and W/C James were the following crew members: P/O J.D.Baxter DFM; Sgt J.Brown; and P/O A.V.Brooks.
