  • Photo of EMORY ANDREW MASON– Sgt Mason was killed when the Oxford aircraft trainer (see photo of advert from 'Flight' magazine), he was flying with instructor Sgt Wilf Benson crashed at 3pm on Friday May 8th 1942 after going out of control. The aircraft, serial BG211, dived into a field at Darlton, near Retford, Nottinghamshire, and caught fire. Both men were killed instantly. Sgt Benson, 26, was from Bolton in Lancashire, England. Sgt Mason, 22, was latterly a Civil Servant at the RCAF HQ Ottawa before joining-up. He had gained his wings two days before getting wed.
  • Photo of EMORY ANDREW MASON– Sgt Mason was attached to 14 (Advanced) Flying Unit at RAF Ossington, Notts (photo taken May 1945, courtesy of the RAF Museum shows some of the types based at this busy training aerodrome). He is buried at Ollerton Military Cemetery, one of 14 Canadian airmen out of the 23 identified aircrew laid to rest there, who are cared for by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
