Baptized Henry-Joseph-Louis Jolicoeur. Son of Eudoxie Rayneault (deceased in 1901) and Ludger Jolicoeur, of l’Assomption. The father never remarried and moved with his family to Vaucluse, l’Assomption, Québec. Henry stated being born in Montréal on 22 February 1887 when he enlisted. He is recorded as ""Henry"" on his baptism record and ""Henri"" in the Book of Remembrance.

Mortally stabbed without motive by another soldier, he died of his wounds the same day at Frensham Hill Military Hospital, near Farnham, Surrey.
