Flight Sergeant Richards, known as Ted to his family volunteered for the Air Force in Whitehorse, Yukon where he grew up. F/S Richards graduated from Course 66, Air Gunners, No. #10 Bombing and Gunnery School. F/S Richards was honoured on June 22, 1973 when Mount Richards, located at latitude 66 04 N; longitude 136 05 W, near Canyon Creek, Yukon was named in his memory. He is fondly remembered by his sister Joyce Yardley.
