Son of Albert Roussel and Emilia Alma (aka Camelia) Whittom, of Barachois de Malbaie, Gaspe Co. in Québec.
Brother of Private Clifford Roussel, regimental number H-106766, who fought in Europe during the Second World War. He survived the war.
Enrolled on June 19th, 1941 under the 1940 NRMA - NPAM - regimental number H-605176, he served in Ontario, discharged from the army on September 3rd, 1941 and joined the regular forces on the 5th Canadian Forestry Corps in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He transferred to the 1st Battalion Winnipeg Grenadiers on October 21st, 1941 to fight in Hong Kong with C Force and as a prisoner of war in Japan. He had 764 days of service, including 711 overseas.
