  • Photo of Benjamin Hamilton– Hamilton, Benjamin George - Flying Officer. Born 3rd July, 1912, at High River, Educated at Gahern and Etzikom, Alta., and King Edward High School, Crescent Heights High School, and Commercial High School, Calgary, Alta.  Entered the service of the Bank 29th July, 1929. Served at Calgary city branches, others in Alberta, and Yellowknife, N.W.T; Enlisted in June, 1942, from Yellowknife in R.C.A.F. Pilot Officer 29th October, 1943; Flying Officer in July, 1944. Trained at Regina, Sask., Mountain View, Ont., Chatham, N.B., Summerside, P.E.I., and Patricia Bay, B.C. Posted to Queen Charlotte Islands in April, 1944, and shortly after to Coal Harbour, B.C.  Killed on active service 31st July, 1945, when the R.C.A.F. flying boat of which he was Navigator crashed while landing at Coal Harbour. Buried in the Field of Honour, Burnsland Cemetery, Calgary.  Flying Officer Hamilton was one of the best rifle shots in Alberta, winning many Dominion marksmanship trophies. From a memorial booklet prepared by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.
