Memorial Cairn commemorating Pilot Officer Gordon Scheltens of the Royal Canadian Air Force. Scheltens Lake was named after him and the memorial cairn was placed by the personnel of 1AMS, 4 Wing, Cold Lake Squadron. The lake is located in the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range.<P> The name of this lake was bestowed by the Canadian Permanent Committee on Geographical Names (now the Geographical Names Board of Canada). The Memorial Cairns Project was conducted by the Airman's Memorial Cairns Committee, Royal Canadian Legion, McCrane Branch No 28, Lac La Biche, Alberta.

This photograph was taken in the summer of 2006.<P> Pilot Officer Scheltens was 28 years old when he lost his life. He now lies in Sedgewick Memorial Cemetery in Sedgewick, Alberta.
