Newspaper Clipping – The Red Deer Advocate 30 June 43 F/Sgt. Carroll was the son of Mr. & Mrs. J. E. Carroll, Red Deer, Alberta. Information from the crash from www.lostbombers.co.uk Airborne 2306 29Jul42 from Topcliffe. Shot down by a night-fighter (Oblt Reinhold Exkardt, 7./NJG3) and crashed 0300 at Corbais (Brabant), 35 km SE of Brussels. All are buried in Corbais Communal Cemetery. Oblt Eckardt was himself shot down by return fire from the Halifax and in baling out his parachute became entangled in the tail plane of his Me110 and he was killed.
