Location:

Hendecourt-les-Cagnicourt is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais about 16 kilometres south-east of Arras and about 4 kilometres south of the Arras to Cambrai main road. Upton Wood is a small wood half-way between Hendecourt and Haucourt and UPTON WOOD CEMETERY is 110 metres south of the wood and about 2 kilometres north of the village.

  • Photo of Harold George Young– Harold George Young was born on May 1, 1896.  He was employed as an Occupation Bank Clerk. He enlisted with 156 Battalion Canadian Infantry on March 11, 1916 in Lynhurst, Ontario.  He embarked for  Halifax on Oct. 18, 1916 and arrived in England on Oct. 28, 1916 aboard the S.S. Northland.  On  May 23, 1917, he was Transferred to 2nd Bn.   He arrived in France on June 27, 1917.  He was killed in action on Aug. 30, 1918 in France. He was 22 years old.
