He was baptized Joseph-Augustin but was also known as Philippe-Augustin, name used in the Book of Remembrance.

Son of François « Francis » Doyon (deceased prior to 1908 in Sommersworth, New Hampshire) and Marie Lessard of Lowell Massachusetts. His mother died one week before he was killed in action.

He enlisted and deserted twice before he enrolled for overseas service: with the 94th Battalion (service number 198188) from November 16, 1915 to July 5, 1916; with the 230th Battalion (service number 1012629) from September 22 to November 2, 1916. Each time he enlisted, he stated being born in St-Ludger-de-Beauce, but this village was founded in 1896, after he was born.

Location:

Wancourt is a village about 8 kilometres south-east of Arras. It is 2 kilometres south of the main road from Arras to Cambrai. The WANCOURT BRITISH CEMETERY is a short distance south-east of the village just off the D 35 road.
