He enlisted into the C.E.F. at Victoria BC listing prior military service in Lord Kitchers Horse (South African war) he listed his occupation as "Lumberman" Charles died at Vancouver BC on Feb. 3rd 1921 at age 42.  He was laid to rest in the Mountain View cemetery of Vancouver BC
