Son of John and Isabella Terras, of Lawhead View, Markinch, Fife, Scotland. Sergeant Terris had prior military service with the Kimberley Light Horse (South Africa) and with the Cape Mounted Police South Africa.

Born at Markinch Fife Scotland on June 21st 1976.  John enlisted into the C.E.F. on Oct. 18th 1914 in Alberta he listed his occupation as "Clerk" he also listed prior military service with the Kimberly Light Horse (South Africa) and with the Cape Mounted Police SA.  John died at Vancouver BC on April 9th 1918 at the age of 41 and was laid to rest in the Mountain View cemetery of Vancouver BC.
