Born 12 April 1890 in Carstairs Junction, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Son of William and Marion Torrance, of Dumfriesshire, Scotland; husband of Sarah Torrance, of Cockton Hill, Bishop Auckland, England. Pte Torrance enlisted on 23 May 1916 in Vancouver, British Columbia, joining the 72nd Battalion, Canadian Infantry.

He died in Vancover BC on Dec. 13th 1918 at the age of 28.
