Born 18 January 1875 in Kinknewton, Scotland. Son of Maj. Gen. William and the late Emma Smith, of Charlton Kings, Cheltenham, Glousester; husband of Dorothy Crozier Smith, of The Woodlands, Ashtead, Surrey, formerly of Molly Gibson Post Office, British Columbia. He enlisted 17 August 1915 at Camp Vernon, British Columbia. He stated he was employed as a rancher.
