Enlisted in the 4th Depot of the 2nd Depot of the 2nd Quebec Regiment on January 3, 1918, he arrived in Great Britain on March 4 and was transferred to the 22nd Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force on August 11. He landed in France on the 13th and went to the front line on the 15th. On August 27, 1918, during an assault, he was mowed down by German machine guns, shrapnel, and shells. Hand-to-hand combat with bayonets ensued. He was initially reported missing, but his body was later found. He was declared killed in action on the 27th during the Battle of Chérisy.
