William was the only son of William Lord and Léontine Beaumont (deceased in 1893). His father remarried to Élizabeth Baribeau in 1895, was widowed again in 1902 and he died in 1915. He stated being born in Montréal on August 7, 1892 when he enlisted.

Take the D38 from Cherisy to Hendecourt. Approximately 2 kilometres from Cherisy turn left just before Sun Quarry Cemetery onto a dirt track. Continue for 1 kilometre before turning left to arrive at Quebec Cemetery.
