A/Cst. Evely was born in Toronto, Ontario. As a child he enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing. A/Cst. Evely took the 2 year course to be a Forestry Technician. When no work was found in Ontario, he moved to British Columbia. While working full time, he took courses and became qualified as an ambulance driver. At the time of his death, he worked full time with the BC Department of Forestry. A/Cst. Evely liked to be involved in the community where he lived. A/Cst. Evely had a partner, Annie, and they had 2 daughters: Corinne and Lydia. A park outside Vernon on Okanagan Lake has been named in his honour.
