Staff Sergeant Brooke was a Mason. He joined the NWMP the same day as his brother, A.R. Brooke. He was promoted to corporal June 1, 1888, to sergeant July 14, 1890 and to staff sergeant January 1, 1893. Staff Sergeant Brooke was very well and favourably known throughout the district. He drowned on patrol when fording the Bow River on the Blackfoot Reserve, Northwest Territories. He had a wife Margaret, and two children Annie and Arthur. His wife never remarried and died in 1950.
