Corporal Hockin was originally from England and was previously a Captain with the Imperial Service (44th Essex Regiment) before joining the NWMP. He was promoted to Corporal April 9, 1896. Corporal Hockin was killed while attempting to apprehend the murderer of Sergeant Colebrook at Minichinas Hills near Duck Lake, Northwest Territories. There is a street named after Corporal Hockin at Depot.

Commemorated on Page 23 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Honour Roll Book.
