Selection process

The Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation Advisory Committee reviews nominations and recommends recipients for this award to the Minister, who makes the final decision. Members include representatives from Veterans Affairs Canada and external organizations.

While serving on the committee, members cannot:

  • Nominate someone for the Commendation
  • Be nominated for the Commendation
  • Review or comment on nominations involving a close associate, colleague or relative

Veterans Affairs Canada administers the Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation.

Nominations are reviewed in two steps:

  1. Administrative review
    We review all nominations for completeness and clarity.
  2. Assessment of merit
    The committee meets annually to review nominations and recommends recipients to the Minister. The selection process is non-partisan and based on merit.

Confidentiality

All nominations are confidential. Nominators are asked to keep submissions confidential.

For privacy reasons, we cannot discuss the status of a nomination or explain why a nomination was unsuccessful.
