Son of William James and Margaret Challinor. Brother of Staff Sergeant John Justice Challinor who died on July 31, 1918, while serving with Canadian Infantry (Alberta Regiment).
William previously served with Brabant's Horse during the South African War.

Festubert is a village about 6 kilometres east of Bethune and BROWN'S ROAD MILITARY CEMETERY is a little south-west of the village and just west of the road from Festubert to Givenchy.
