Born in Shropshire, England on 1 July 1879. Son of Capt. Geoffrey Joseph Shakerley (Royal Artillery) and Emma Shakerley (nee Butler), of Hulme Ranch, High River, Alberta, Canada. He enlisted in Calgary, Alberta on 11 January 1915, stating he was single and employed as a rancher. He also lost two brothers in the Great War, Captain Eric Piers Shakerley, King's Royal Rifle Corps on 10 March 1915, and Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Charles Shakerley, King's Royal Rifle Corps on 15 May 1915. He is survived by his sister who is the only remaining sibling in the family. She resides at the ranch. He was a member of the Ranchmen's Club and Captain of the Pekisko Polo Team. He was of a quiet and unassuming manner.
