Burial/memorial information
Baptized Joseph-Jean Fortin. Son of Élie Fortin (deceased in 1912) and Mathilda Poitras, of Montréal, Québec. He stated being born in 1896 and he that “Johnny” was his first name when he enlisted.
He was also recorded as being born in “Empress, Que” on his attestation paper, but such a place does not exist. Genealogical research located him as being born in Arnprior, Ontario; in Chicoutimi in the 1901 census; and in Montréal in the 1911 census. He was brother-in-law of Thomas Robillard, service number 448896, DCM, MM, a hero of the 22nd Battalion.
