Son of William and Agnes Edwards, of Port Hope, Ontario. Lieutenant Edwards enlisted early in the war as a Lieutenant. As he was not qualified, he attended Military School in Peterborough where he won the rank of Captain. He enlisted with the 39th Battalion on 26 December 1914.

Noeux-les-Mines is a town 6 kilometres south of Bethune on the main road to Arras. The Communal Cemetery is on the northern side of the town on the south-east of the road to Labourse. The NOEUX-LES-MINES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION is on the west side of the Communal Cemetery.
