British War Medal and Victory Medal to Pte James Mahood. His medals are impresed 73 Can Inf, as this was his original unit in the field. After Vimy Ridge, the 73rd was broken up and many of the men were sent to a sister Bn, the 42nd Can Inf. Pte Mahood spent 37 months at the front, in Belgium and France, only to be greviously wounded at Jemaples, Belgium on 10 Nov 1918. He died of wounds at 0530hrs on 11 Nov 18.

VALENCIENNES (ST.ROCH) COMMUNAL CEMETERY is situated on the north-east side of the town, about 1.5 kilometres from the centre. It is on the north side of the road to Bruay-sur-L'Escaut.
