He got married in 1910, was father of five, the youngest being born only two weeks before his departure overseas.
He previously served with the 84th Regiment in St-Hyacinthe, Québec. Enlisted in the 150th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, he arrived in Liverpool, England, on 6 October 1916 with HMT Lapland. Transferred on 28 November 1916 to the 22nd Battalion, he was reported missing on 5 May 1917, during the Battle of Fresnoy, France, then recognized as killed in action on the 5th.
