He first enlisted in Montreal, Quebec, on 25 February 1915 with the 41st Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, regimental number 416448, stating that he was born in 1895, a second time on 5 February 1916 with the 206th Battalion, regimental number 416448, stating that he was born in 1894, and a third time on the same day with the 163rd Battalion, regimental number 660248, also in Montreal. He served in Bermuda from 11 August 1916 to 18 November 1916. He arrived in Liverpool, England, on 6 December. Transferred to the 22nd Battalion on 15 October 1917, he was reported missing in action on 10 November during the Battle of Passchendaele, Belgium, then presumed dead, confirmation of death on 18 August 1918.
