Son of John Gordon Sherriff and his wife, Haldane Doyle. Pte Sherriff had two sisters, Haldane Sherriff born in 1882, died in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1968. She was married to Charles McClelland. Haldane and Charles had one son Garnet Gordon McClelland born in Winnipeg. Mae Sherriff married Mr. Flisher and had two sons, Donald & Gordon. Pte Sherriff was not married. He wrote music. He enlisted at Ottawa on August 24, 1914. He had previously served for three years in the 15th US Cavalry.
