The Merchant Navy Memorial was dedicated June 5, 1944. It was designed by John Bryan of Providence Bay. The anchor was retrieved in the waters of Providence Bay and donated to the builders of the memorial.

In the Spring of 2002, six bronze plaques naming the 72 merchant ships lost during the Second World War were completed. The driving force behind this memorial were three Navy Veterans - John Bryan, Providence Bay, Allan Tustian, Mindemoya and Ed Kift, Little Current. There was a rededication of the memorial on May 25, 2002, where the plaques were unveiled by the Hon. Art Egleton, Minister of National Defence, assisted by Comrades Allen Tustian and Norm Smith.

The Manitoulin District CenotaphManitoulin Women's Memorial and Youth in Partnership with Veterans Memorial are also located in the Veterans' Memorial Gardens Complex.
