Son of Jean-Baptiste « alias John » Girouard and Amanda Langevin, of Brockton, Massachusetts.
He stated being born in 1884 and enrolled twice. He was severely wounded at Ypres in 1915. Repatriated, he reenrolled a few months later and was severely wounded at Vimy in 1917. Back to his unit after a year, he was wounded on May 28, 1918 during a raid on machine-gun post near Boileux St Marc, in the Arras area. A week later, in Neuville-Vitasse, he was killed by the explosion of a grenade during an enemy raid.

Wailly is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais about 6 kilometres south-west from Arras in the valley of the little river Crinchon. WAILLY ORCHARD CEMETERY stands above the village on its outskirts in part of the old orchard.
