Baptized Joseph-Ernest Audet. Son of Joseph Audet-dit-Lapointe and Octavie Lamontagne, of St-Camille, Bellechasse, Québec. He had declared to be born on the 26th when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 199th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he stated that he had served with the 55th Irish Canadian Rangers and signed his name as Joseph Lapointe. On December 13, 1916, he embarked for Great Britain and arrived in England on the 26th. On May 10, 1917, he was assigned to the 23rd Reserve Battalion; on the 14th, to the 150th Battalion; and on February 26, 1918, to the 22nd Battalion. He crossed over to France on the 27th and landed there on the 28th. He joined this unit on the front lines on March 14. He was killed in action on April 22, 1918, in the trenches southwest of Arras near Mercatel, Pas-de-Calais.

Wailly is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais about 6 kilometres south-west from Arras in the valley of the little river Crinchon. WAILLY ORCHARD CEMETERY stands above the village on its outskirts in part of the old orchard.
