Arthur Knechtel was born on August 27th, 1889 in Hanover, Ontario. He joined the CEF on February 10th, 1916 in Edmonton, listing his prior occupation as a carpenter. His prior military experience was with the 32nd Bruce Regiment. His father, Peter Knechtel, lived in Southampton at that time. Arthur Knechtel is remembered on the Southampton Cenotaph. This war memorial includes plaques with the names of men from World Wars 1 & 2. The WWI list is inscribed: "In grateful remembrance of the men of Southampton who fought and died in the Great War". Southampton is in Bruce County, Ontario and is the oldest port on the Bruce Coast. This photograph was taken by Mr. Clive Freeman in the summer of 2002.

YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY Belgium
The YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY is located to the North West of the town. From the station turn left and drive along M.Fochlaan to the roundabout, turn right and go to the next roundabout. Here turn left into M.Haiglaan along for 300 meters and turn right into M.Plumerlaan. The YPRES RESERVOIR CEMETERY is on the right hand side, approx 200 meters along.
