Sergeant William John Walkey
The original grave marker for Sgt. William John Walkey. His regimental number and date of death are inscribed upon the base of this cross and visible upon enlarging this photograph. This grave marker would have been replaced by a permanent stone marker by the CWGC a few years later. Sgt. Walkey and Corporal James Learmonth (Canadian Railway Troops) died on the same day and were buried side-by-side. Graves such as these were often decorated by their comrades and photographed to send back to their relatives.
