Burial/memorial information
He was killed in action on 4 June 1916 by shrapnel while in the trenches at Zillebeke-Mont-Sorrel in the Ypres Salient, Belgium, at Saint-Éloi. He was giving instructions to his junior officers to better protect the men. Four soldiers were killed and nine wounded along with him, all from C Company, 22nd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was initially buried at La Brasserie, a cemetery south-south-west of Ypres.
