Son of Thomas Duncan, of Brownhills, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland. Pte Fife was independently wealthy, but decided to answer the call to duty early in the war. He was single. There is some confusion regarding his age. Some documents show him at 45, others at 49 years of age.
