Baptized Joseph-Eugène-Émilien Grignon. Son of Joseph Grignon and Anna-Èva Gibeau, of St-Lambert, Chambly, Québec. He stated being born in 1896 when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 69th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on April 17, 1916, and landed in Liverpool, England, on the 27th. On January 4, 1917, he was temporarily assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion in Shoreham. On the following April 20, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and sent to France on the 21st, arriving that same day. On the 30th, he went to the front lines. He was killed in action on July 23, 1917, during the Battle of Lens, Pas-de-Calais, on Hill 70 near Cité St-Pierre.

AIX-NOULETTE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION Pas de Calais, France
Aix-Noulette is a village in the Department of the Pas-de-Calais, about 13 kilometres south of Bethune on the main road to Arras. From Arras take the D937 towards Bethune. At Aix-Noulette, turn right at the church. The Communal Cemetery and Extension are a few hundred metres on the left side of the road to Bully-Grenay.
