Emil enlisted into the 89th Battn. C.E.F. (replacement) at Calgary Alberta on Dec. 24th 1915 listing his occupation as "Blacksmith" He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in 1918. Emil died at Vancouver BC on Dec. 31st 1920 at the age of 37. He was laid to rest in the Mountain View cemetery of Vancouver BC -
