Baptized Joseph-Gédéon-Léon Grenier. Son of Siméon Grenier (deceased in 1917) and Émélie Farly « Farley », of Montréal, Québec. Brother of Private Armand Grenier, 3158062, who fought in France with the 22e Battalion. He survived the war.
He first enlisted on November 11, 1917, at the 2nd Recruitment Office of the 2nd Quebec Regiment in Montreal, Quebec, with service number 4034398, and re-enlisted on March 18, 1918, at the same location under the same service number. He sailed for Great Britain on March 22 and arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 3, 1918. He was immediately assigned to the 10th Reserve Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force. On August 8, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion and sent to France on the 10th. On the 15th, he went to the front lines and was killed in action on the 28th during the Battle of Chérisy, Pas-de-Calais.
