Private George Alvin Jones
Alvin Jones (he was known by his middle name) was born and raised on a farm a short distance outside the rural hamlet of Vasey in Tay Township, Simcoe County, Ontario. In February 1916, he enlisted in the 157th Battalion (Simcoe Foresters). Overseas he served in the 116th (Ontario County) Battalion. On December 28, 1917, he died of wounds in France. The photo, in which he is wearing the badges of the 157th Bn, is a digital image of an old framed and colourized studio photograph, which still hangs on the wall in the home of a family member.

Honour Roll, listing persons from the rural community of Vasey, Ontario, who served in the armed forces in World War I. This list is displayed on a wall inside Vasey United Church. At the top of the list is Alvin Jones, with a small star beside his name to indicate that in died while serving. Also on the list is Wesley Campbell, who was killed in action in France in 1917. Photograph of Private George Alvin Jones in uniform. He is wearing the badges of the 157th Battalion (Simcoe Foresters) which he originally joined, rather than those of the 116th (Ontario County) Battalion to which he was transferred shortly after arriving in the United Kingdom.

In November 2021, a real estate sales agency installed memorial banners in the front windows of its office on Main Street in Stayner, Ontario. These banners paid tribute to the office staff's relatives who had served in Canada's forces during wartime. One of these banners honoured Private George Alvin Jones. (Image taken by Gregory J. Memorial Plaque embossed with the name of George Alvin Jones. This plaque was sent by the British government, as a token of remembrance, to Private G. Alvin Jones's father, Alfred Jones, of Vasey, Ontario. Also shown is a note that accompanied the plaque. These items are still possessed by members of the Jones family.

Noeux-les-Mines is a town 6 kilometres south of Bethune on the main road to Arras. The Communal Cemetery is on the northern side of the town on the south-east of the road to Labourse. The NOEUX-LES-MINES COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION is on the west side of the Communal Cemetery.
