Photo of George Alvin Jones
Alvin Jones (he was known by his middle name) was born and raised on a farm a short distance outside the rural hamlet of Vasey in Tay Township, Simcoe County, Ontario. In February 1916, he enlisted in the 157th Battalion (Simcoe Foresters). Overseas he served in the 116th (Ontario County) Battalion. On December 28, 1917, he died of wounds in France. The photo, in which he is wearing the badges of the 157th Bn, is a digital image of an old framed and colourized studio photograph, which still hangs on the wall in the home of a family member. -

Memorial
In November 2021, a real estate sales agency installed memorial banners in the front windows of its office on Main Street in Stayner, Ontario. These banners paid tribute to the office staff's relatives who had served in Canada's forces during wartime. One of these banners honoured Private George Alvin Jones. (Image taken by Gregory J.
