Baptized Louis-Barthélemi Lamarre. Son of Philomène Gaudreau (deceased in 1885) and Alexis ""Alexandre"" Lamarre (remarried 1887 to Julie Bélanger), of Lowell, Massachusetts.
Enlisted in the 37th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he was transferred to the 41st Battalion on September 14, 1915. He sailed for Great Britain on October 16 and landed in Plymouth, England, on the 28th. On April 20, 1916, he was assigned to the 23rd Reserve Battalion, and on June 6, to the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. He arrived in France on the 7th, and on the 23rd, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion, which he joined on the 24th. On July 10, he went to the front lines. On September 30, he suffered a nervous shock due to a nearby shell explosion.
Mortally wounded in the front line trenches at Hill 70 at Lens, he died of his wounds a few hours later at the Casualty Clearing Station No. 6 at Bruay-La-Bussière.

BARLIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY Pas de Calais, France
Barlin is a village about 11 kilometres south-west of Bethune on the D188, between the Bethune-Arras and Bethune-St. Pol roads, about 6.5 kilometres south-east of Bruay. The BARLIN COMMUNAL CEMETERY and EXTENSION lie to the north of the village on the D171 road to Houchin.
