Son of Octave Lavoie and Marie Olympe (aka Eugénie) Lavoie (deceased in 1902), of Ste-Flavie, Rimouski, Québec. He had declared that he was born in 1892 when he enlisted.
Enlisted in the 57th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, he sailed for Great Britain on June 2, 1916, and landed in Liverpool, England, on the 8th. Assigned to the 69th Battalion upon his arrival, he was transferred to the 22nd Battalion on September 27, 1916. He crossed the English Channel with the 69th and landed at Boulogne, Pas-de-Calais, that same day. He joined his new unit in combat at Bully-Grenay, Pas-de-Calais, on the 16th.
The battalion was at Wasmes, near Mons, Belgium, when he was stricken with the Spanish flu. On Nov. 14th, 1918, he was rushed to Casualty Clearing Station No. 4 at Solesmes, near Valenciennes, France, and died there of pneumonia five days later, on the 19th, at 2 am.
