Baptized Joseph-Henry Bédard. Son of Ludger Bédard and Marie-Anne Giguère, of Sherbrooke, Québec.

He was wounded or killed in action between 30 September and 4 October 1916 during the Battle of Courcelette, France, for the capture of Regina Trench. He was reported missing, then officially killed in action on 4 October 1916.
