He previously served with the 9th Régiment des Voltigeurs de Québec. He fought at Scherpenberg, during the First Battle of Ypres, at Vierstraat, at St-Éloi, at Zillebeke, all in Belgium, and at the Battle of the Somme, in France. First reported wounded in action on 18 September 1916, he was reported killed in action on 1 January 1917 at Brickfields during the Battle of Courcelette. He was last seen wounded in the left leg and ribs by shrapnel from a shell.

His name as it is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial. Over 11,000 fallen Canadians having no known place of burial in France, are honoured on this Memorial. May they never be forgotten. (J. Stephens) -
