Son of the late Jean “Johnny” Boulet and late Léa Gagné, of Montmagny. He declared his sister and godmother Herméline Boulet (spouse of David Bilodeau), of Québec, as his next-of-kin.

His last name is incorrectly spelled Boulé on some military documents and memorials.

He previously served with the 70th Regiment in Hull, Quebec. He enlisted on 24 December 1915, with the 57th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. In England, he transferred to the 22nd Battalion on 27 September 1916. He went to the front line the following 16 October and was killed in action on 21 August 1917 during the Battle of Lens, France, on Hill 70 near Cité Saint-Laurent for the capture of Catapult Trench.
